Lottery funded Communities Prepared places people and communities at its core with a ground-breaking step forward for community resilience for emergencies by empowering and mobilising community emergency volunteers.

Communities Prepared volunteers support communities to be more resilient by preparing for, reacting to, and helping with the recovery from flooding, snow, storms and other emergencies. With an action plan based on their local knowledge, they assist the emergency services and support the community, as well as serve a vital purpose in early warning, reassurance and support for vulnerable people.

This three year period comes to an end in October 2021, and we are now looking to continue the programme into Communities Prepared Phase III. We are looking for an enthusiastic part-time Senior Project Officer to focus on developing a sustainable business model that builds on the legacy of the programme and allows it to seamlessly roll into phase III post-October 2021. This role will need to pilot, monitor and evaluate the model, as well as work with Groundwork South to secure financial support for it to run. The successful candidate will also support the team to deliver training so needs to be a confident and effective presenter, and work well in both an experienced team and independently.

Main Duties

  • Develop a sustainable business model for Phase III of the Communities Prepared programme, alongside the Programme Manager
  • Use various tools to understand the marketplace, the communities we work with and potential partners to ensure the new business model meets the needs of communities across the country
  • Pilot the audit model with communities engaging with Communities Prepared, gathering feedback and monitoring and evaluating it’s success
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities for the programme post October 2021, working collaboratively with the Groundwork Development team to write bids and tender responses
  • Identify and manage corporate partnerships to support Communities Prepared
  • Establish connections and manage relationships with Local Authorities, Parish and Town Councils, and resilience networks
  • Develop a database to track engagement and progress of community engagement according to the business model
  • Depending on COVID-19 restrictions, travel nationally to meet the above duties

In return we offer:

  • 25 days FTE per annum plus English Bank Holidays
  • A contributory pension scheme
  • Scope to continuing development of your professional skills
