An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in our joint climate action team supporting both Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council to deliver our ambitious commitments on carbon reduction to address the climate emergency.

About us

In Oxfordshire County Council we are committed to scaling up and accelerating our action against climate change; pledging to achieve carbon neutrality on our own estates by 2030, and embedding climate action in all areas of influence – from procurement, to planning, investment to innovation, land use to transport. Cherwell District Council has also committed to far reaching targets on Climate Action.

About the role

As a Climate Action Projects Officer, you will support developing and delivering a rolling programme of projects to support the councils in achieving their climate action commitments.

You will work alongside with teams throughout the organisation along with external stakeholders. Your technical knowledge will help you to provide advice and identify and prioritise opportunities for carbon and cost reduction.

You will also support the Climate Action Delivery Manager in seeking commercial and income generation opportunities as well as keeping abreast of innovation.

About you

Your experience of developing sound investable business cases, alongside your focus on results and project management skills, will bring projects through to delivery and embed a proactive approach to energy management across the organisation.

We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter with a background in energy management, organisational travel and flee; as well as experience of working in a large organisation, and successfully delivering change.

Rewards and benefits

It really is true that every single job role here contributes to bettering the lives of the people in our county - we want to do this for our employees too. We are proud of our strong flexible working culture, including the opportunity for flexibility on working hours and the use of technology to support agile working. We offer some of the very best learning and development opportunities to support your ongoing development.

We have a generous holiday allowance which rises as you remain in employment with us up to 32 days, as well as giving you the option to buy additional holiday. You will also have access to a Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions of up to 19.9% of your salary; a range of local and national retail discounts; and a host of enhanced family friendly policies including carers leave and paid time off for volunteering.
