Do you want to create a wilder Hampshire and Isle of Wight?

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK. With the invaluable support of volunteers and members we manage over 50 nature reserves. We also work with other organisations and landowners to protect and connect wildlife sites across the county and inspire local communities and young people to care for wildlife where they live.

The Solent is a special place, with endless surprises just beneath its surface. There are vast seagrass meadows and intricate chalk reefs, as well as fascinating species like seahorses, thresher sharks, and cuttlefish.

Our project Secrets of the Solent is shining a spotlight on this vibrant marine environment. Over four busy years we're celebrating our extraordinary waters, the amazing people and wildlife that share them, and the inspiring work being done to safeguard their future.

The role:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Officer to join our Secrets of the Solent project. This is the perfect opportunity for someone with a genuine passion for wildlife and communicating its fascinating stories to a wide audience using a variety of media. You’ll be tasked with developing and delivering detailed communication plans for each strand of the Secrets of the Solent project, working closely with other key internal staff to identify key audiences, activities and channels. You’ll also manage the relationships with external creative agencies to develop branding, interpretation and graphic design as well as managing the day to day offline and online communications including media, blogs and social media.

About you:

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience of delivering engaging and creative multimedia communications and content
  • Experience of working with external agencies
  • Experience of website content management tools and of producing content for blogs and social media
  • An understanding of communications tools and techniques including digital and social media
  • A broad understanding of current conservation issues locally and nationally
  • The ability to proofread and edit
  • A true passion for wildlife conservation, nature and engaging with the public on these issues

The closing date for this role is Friday 30th October.

Interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 17th November.
