Job purpose and background

Do you care about environmental issues? Do you want to be part of the need for action on forests? Would you like to be at the heart of driving changes through environmental disclosure?

You are responsible for evolving CDP’s forests questionnaires. Specifically, you will work to ensure that the forests corporate questionnaire is developed to ensure assessment of company performance against the Paris agreement. You will ensure this questionnaire is aligned with the principles set out in the Question to Score project. You will work closely with the Senior Manager, Question to Score to deliver the developed questionnaire and accompanying resources to time and budget.

This role requires experience of delivering technical projects in forests-related disclosure to time, budget, requirements and quality. You will need to demonstrate capability to work and communicate effectively with others, including stakeholders and thematic teams (such as climate change, water security, and forests), to ensure processes are followed, deliverables meet milestones and are delivered to high standards of quality. A knowledge of environmental issues (specifically forests) is critical, and how they affect, and are affected by, businesses.

The role is based in CDP’s London office and reports directly to the Senior Manager, Question to Score, in the Disclosure Evolution team in the Disclosure department. The role is a full time contract until August 2021.

About The Disclosure Evolution Team, Disclosure Department

CDP’s Disclosure Department is responsible for evolving and operating CDP’s disclosure platform and processes. The Disclosure Evolution team is responsible for delivering projects that enhance CDP’s environmental disclosure platform used by companies, cities and state/regional governments. This encompasses changes to make our questionnaires, guidance and scoring methodologies more impactful by measuring and driving transition of disclosers to more sustainable business models, as well as changes to make our platform and operations more efficient.

Key Responsibilities Include

Delivery of CDP’s forests questionnaire, to time, requirements and budget. This includes:

  • Working with the forests team to define what “transition” will mean as it pertains to forests, for instance, removing deforestation from supply chains and forests restoration;
  • Delivering questionnaires that work in conjunction with water security and climate change questionnaires;
  • Prioritising data points essential for assessing companies in their elimination of deforestation in supply chains;
  • Technical writing – the creation and/or modifying guidance that provides clarity for corporate disclosure and incentivises sustainable forests use in the supply chain;
  • Supporting the development of the forests scoring methodologies, in coordination with the scoring methodologies for climate change and water security;
  • Provide materials and training for CDP colleagues and external users;
  • Any other tasks required to support the development of CDP’s disclosure objectives more broadly

Required Skills And Experience

  • Experience (3-5 years) of thought leadership and/or delivery of ESG / forests-related disclosure assessment in multi-stakeholder environments to time, budget and quality, and reporting of key performance indicators
  • Experience and knowledge in corporate forests disclosure, action and target setting e.g eliminating commodity-driven deforestation and forests restoration;
  • The ability to understand, organize and analyse qualitative and quantitative data accurately and at speed
  • Experience organising and facilitating multi-stakeholder workshops and requirements gathering
  • A background or relevant degree in economics, accountancy, forests management, environmental policy, natural resources or environmental sciences, including knowledge of policy and jurisdictional regulations
  • A flexible, friendly and diligent working style with a proven record of working within a team to deliver projects successfully
  • Track record of successful communication of technical subjects through a variety of media, including writing and proof reading technical documents, and conference presenting
  • Proficiency in excel, power point and use of analytics tools
  • Fluent in English and an excellent standard of written English

Desired Skills And Experience

  • Experience of working in or familiarity with corporate sectors (such as financial services, paper & forestry, food beverage & tobacco, mining, agricultural commodities)
  • Technical ability in another language (especially Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese)

This is a full time, role until August 2021 based at CDP’s London office reporting to Senior Manager, Question to Score, Disclosure Evolution.
