Nature Policy Officer

Salary: Starting at £26,212 to £29,320 per annum
Contract: 12 Months

RSPB Cymru is looking for a committed individual to help us shape and advocate the policies we need in Wales to tackle the nature emergency and secure a Green Recovery as we move through the Covid19 crisis.

We are in a critical moment for nature, and the RSPB is campaigning to secure strong commitments to nature's recovery in all four countries of the UK as well as robust international targets on biodiversity and climate change. In Wales we will be seeking to secure and influence new legislation to ensure environmental protection is upheld following Brexit, as well as an exciting Green Recovery agenda.

The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of nature conservation in Wales, an understanding of relevant legislation and policy, and a creative approach to thinking about how the RSPB and the wider environment movement can have influence. You will have the ability to analyse complex issues, and bring your communication skills to bear in negotiating with and influencing others. You will be passionate about the natural world, self motivated and work well in teams and networks.

In short, you will be an enthusiastic and proactive advocate who will champion the change nature needs to decision-makers, professional counterparts and the public. In turn, you will join a friendly and dynamic RSPB community, committed to creating a better future for nature.

This is a 12 month full-time fixed term contract post. However, for the right candidate, we would consider part-time options (minimum 3 days a week) with the subsequent pro rata extension of contract length. For now, this role will be undertaken from home with equipment supplied by RSPB Cymru.

Please note: This role was originally advertised in February/March 2020 as an 18 month post. However, the recruitment process was paused as the country went into lockdown. If you applied then and are still interested in this role for 12 months, please review the criteria, update your application as necessary and resubmit it.

Due to Covid restrictions, we are planning on holding interviews virtually. If this presents you with issues, please inform us when applying and we will seek, where possible, to find alternative arrangements.

Closing date: 30 September 2020
