Role Purpose

Natural Resources Wales is an ‘evidence based’ organisation. We have a saying that “any decision made in the absence of good data, is basically just a guess”.

This post provides the strategic lead for data management across NRW. The post holder will lead on finalising and implementing the data strategy through strong project management. They will Chair the Data Strategy Steering Group to manage and oversee this implementation.

This is an exciting time for data management in NRW with the final elements of the data management infrastructure being put in place and our data governance policy being realised through the recent Organisational Design process. We are going to see a dramatic change in data management and use in the next 6 months and this post holder will be at the heart of this.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, or able to demonstrate comparable technical know-how, in a relevant subject.
  • Member of relevant environmental, IT or data management profession is desirable but not essential.

The post holder will have an in-depth knowledge and experience in:

  • Developing and delivering strategy. A proven ability in the application of enterprise data management, program management and continuous improvement methodologies within a distributed organisation.
  • Technical specialist areas it is responsible for (Enterprise Data Management, Data Modelling, Data architecture, Data analytics, data science, data transformation, infographics and visualisation, data warehousing, data integrity management, master data and metadata management).
  • Relevant EU and domestic, information and data management policy areas affecting the application of data management in NRW (e.g. open data, linked data, open source, crowd sourcing).
  • Working in partnership; demonstrable collaboration, co-delivery, influencing skills and effective communication.
