Green Element is a growing environmental management consultancy and is looking for a person that holds environmental issues close to their heart. We are looking for someone to help us grow from the solid foundations that we have into a larger business, helping more companies tackle climate change and reduce their environmental impact. We are a small company with some big clients. We offer a job that will be colourful and varied, helping companies reduce their environmental impact. We would like to recruit someone that believes in the importance of caring about the world’s environment and is truly passionate about trying to reduce the environmental impact of people and business. You have to be methodical and client led with a fantastic eye for detail. We expect you to be inquisitive and question anything you think needs to be questioned. You will be managing projects; nurturing and enhancing the already high standard of your team mates and collaborating with our clients on a personable level. You will play a key part in helping Green Element grow and will work with our MD on sales strategies and managing the opportunity pipeline. We need you to be methodical in the way you record and track leads / prospects using our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool – Insightly.

You will be working from our Edinburgh, (North Edinburgh/Queensferry) shared office working space as well as independently from home, so you should be good at managing your time to fit around clients as well as your own needs. You should have excellent analytical abilities and have a fantastic eye for detail. You should also be comfortable with meeting clients, have strong communication skills and the ability to listen. The best salespeople are not the ones who are always talking. We need someone who is a good listener so they can fully understand our prospects’ needs and which problems require solving.


The best salespeople are always asking good questions and dig deeper into the needs of their prospects and clients. A prospect very rarely gives it all away – you will need to be curious and get to the root of the prospect’s issues by asking good questions. By doing so, it turns out that the prospect you thought was only interested in one service is also interested in buying another service. All you need to do is ask the right questions.

Passionate about sustainability and fighting climate change

Ambition, enthusiasm, and a hunger to hit your commission / OTE (goal oriented)

We need sales to drive our mission forward, so you should be driven to hit your commission / OTE (on target earnings) potential.

A natural networker

You will love to network and meet new people. You will feel comfortable at events and in a room full of people (or video call!). If you already have an established network – both online and offline – then that’s of course a bonus

Patience and Persistence

Very few sales happen on the first point of contact. In fact, the average figure is more like the 8th – 12th point of contact. Of course, this varies greatly depending on the sector, but for Business to Business (B2B) consultancy services like Green Element offers it’s certainly true. As a result, patience and persistence is a key attribute.

Team player and ability to work autonomously and proactively

Sales and marketing need to work together in harmony, so you will need to have an excellent working relationship with the CEO and Head of Marketing, as well as everyone else on the team. Marketing needs to provide the sales team with the tools and materials they need to support the sales process. But equally, the salesperson needs to provide timely and insightful input back to the marketing team.

It will be important for you to be highly proactive about prospecting, always looking for new avenues to reach people and identify new prospects, through reading industry journals, attending events (when things are back to normal), being active on LinkedIn and so on. (LinkedIn is a key tool for prospecting and social selling, so we will expect you to be highly active on the channel.)

Required experience, skills and qualifications

  • Some demonstrable sales experience – regardless of sector, but B2B services experience would be beneficial
  • Must feel comfortable speaking to senior decision makers and budget holders within a company. Able to speak their language and know how to communicate at that level effectively.
  • Depending on the experience we will send you on a sales course straight away. This will be a part of the salary and will be paid off within the first year.

Desired, but non-essential skills

  • Experience of using a CRM system would be highly beneficial
  • Existing knowledge of the corporate sustainability sector and the kind of services which Green Element sells would allow you to get up to speed more quickly
  • Any sales training would be highly beneficial – e.g. SPIN, Miller Heiman, MEDDIC, etc.

Notes on salary / commission package

You will receive an agreed commission percentage for every sale you make.

Commission amount:

The commission rate will be roughly 10%. This then will be reduced each year as you are promoted and start selling higher-value services.
