The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust has an exciting new job opportunity for a Visitor Experience and Exhibitions Officer working from the HWDT Centre in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. The post is full time, on a fixed-term contract until March 2023.

Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund this role forms part of the new ‘Gateway to the Trail’ project, which follows on from the successful launch of the Hebridean Whale Trail in 2019.

The role is a unique position within the charity, pivotal to the expansion and improvement of the current visitor offer through overseeing the development of new media exhibits and refreshing the existing centre space. Informing others about the centre and its activities is key to the role so we are seeking an enthusiastic self-motivator, familiar with event promotion, experienced in public engagement, with outstanding communication skills.

The HWDT Centre is situated on the Main Street in Tobermory’s iconic harbour where thousands of visitors pass by each summer. Over 16,000 people visit our centre each year to learn about whales and dolphins, take part in an activity or make a purchase from our retail shop. The Centre is likely to be their first contact with the charity and opportunity to learn about the spectacular marine heritage of the west coast of Scotland.

We are looking for somebody with a passion for visitor experience and a desire to make our centre the best it can be. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while being able to provide a consistent and friendly welcome to the centre on a day to day basis. Understanding the needs of volunteers, as well as being able to work with the wider team of staff and trustees, to deliver project outcomes with the vision of the trust is central to all tasks. A genuine interest in cetaceans and marine conservation is essential and an understanding of the workings of a charity/NGO would be an advantage.

Details of how to apply and the full job description and person specification are available to download at hwdt.org/vacancies/2020/7/20/visitor-experience-officer.
