Want to help shape the future of agri-environment support for farmers and wildlife in England? We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic farmland advisor to work with landowners in Suffolk and Norfolk to support them to take part in a Defra-funded project which is trialling a novel approach to delivering land management that could help save one of our threatened species, the turtle dove.

About the project

You will engage farmers across identified auction "zones" in Suffolk and Norfolk to support them to provide habitat on their land for turtle doves, primarily via a novel and innovative reverse auction mechanism. You will support farmers through the bidding process and then, if successful, to implement measures to help turtle doves in East Anglia. This partnership project forms part of a wider programme of 'tests and trials' being run by Defra to engage with stakeholders and inform the design of the post Brexit environmental land management system in England.

About you

The post-holder will be responsible for fostering close links with the farming community in the project area in Suffolk and Norfolk. Excellent communication skills will be essential as a core element of the role will be to provide farmland advice and run training sessions. The successful candidate will have excellent ecological experience and a good understanding of farming systems and how these can be applied to deliver benefits for biodiversity is also essential.

This is a part time fixed term contract over 8 months but would ideally include flexibility around meeting project deadlines and targets. As such and in agreement with the successful candidate this position would ideally have a high degree of flexible working up to a defined number of days within the contract.
