This is an exciting opportunity to join the Flood Risk and Biodiversity Team in Cambridgeshire. The team leads the Council’s role as a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), working with a diverse range of partners to; investigate and deliver innovative local flood risk management projects across the County; improve the water environment and provide technical engineering advice on surface water management for new developments.

We have a vacancy for a part-time, senior flood risk officer, to enhance the delivery our LLFA functions and duties. This role will give you a wealth of opportunities to get involved in a broad range of flood and water initiatives and develop and utilise your skills in the following key areas:

  • investigation of flood incidents,
  • initiate and project manage the delivery of flood risk management initiatives
  • enforcement activities ranging from negotiation to legal procedures
  • provision of technical surface water drainage advice especially around ordinary watercourse consenting

All of our work involves a high level of communication and a willingness to work and negotiate with other flood risk management stakeholders, to ensure the continued delivery of high quality outputs. The role requires excellent partnership working across a wide range of stakeholders, partners and customers.

You must be a proactive and independent thinker, who can work flexibly and well, as part of a dynamic and busy team. You must be a confident and effective communicator and negotiator, capable of explaining technical information clearly and sensitively. Computer literacy with experience of using spreadsheets and databases is also important.

The team’s duties, powers and work streams are underpinned by the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, the Land Drainage Act 1991 and the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and are set out in Cambridgeshire’s Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.
