The natural world is valuable in its own right, and is the foundation of our wellbeing and prosperity; we depend on it and it depends on us. Despite this, the climate and the natural world are in crisis.

We urgently need nature to recover, with wilder landscapes containing more intact peatlands; more thriving grasslands and woods; more natural rivers and wetlands; coastlines with salt marshes; wilder seas with seagrass beds, kelp forests, whales, dolphins and abundant fish. We need these wild places to take carbon dioxide out of the air, locking it up in soils, sediments and the living world, for the long term. We need them to remove pollution and to moderate flooding, drought and temperature extremes – especially where we live.

About the role:

The Head of Natural Climate Solutions will be responsible for delivering our ambitious response to the climate emergency, by driving forward a programme to increase our capacity to deliver natural solutions to climate change and cut our carbon footprint.

You will lead on assessing the movement’s carbon footprint and developing a plan to cut its emissions, supporting individual Wildlife Trusts to achieve these objectives. You will ensure that clear guidance is in place for Trusts to develop natural solutions and that the movement’s policy and approach to working with corporate partners to capture carbon and reduce emissions is strongly managed and follows agreed principles, to avoid risks associated with offsetting.

Working with marketing and fundraising colleagues, you will ensure our offsetting products are properly marketed to prospective funders. You will oversee the management of a suite of natural solutions projects on the ground, funded by both corporate and other funding sources. You will ensure that there is excellent project management throughout, as well as reporting and sharing of best practice, solutions and ideas.

You will be part of a tight and dedicated central team, with a modest budget but an unmatched depth and breadth of human resources to draw on across the Trusts.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of climate change issues and natural climate solutions along with issues relating to the wider environment, including sustainable development.

We are looking for a team-worker, someone who values and respects each person’s contribution, experience and knowledge. We want someone who will work collaboratively and strategically to deliver agreed priorities whilst confidently engaging stakeholders, providing internal leadership and managing others.

If you are a strategic thinker, able to lead the implementation of strategies and plans, we would love to hear from you!
