The Role:

Arcus has a new opportunity for a dynamic and experienced ornithologist to deliver both office and field-based aspects of consultancy. We are ideally looking to appoint at Senior level, but Consultant level will also be considered. The current opportunity is in our North East office (Durham).

Responsibilities:

The role is principally to:

  • Manage ornithological projects, surveys and survey data;
  • Produce high quality reports to support planning applications;
  • Advise on ornithological mitigation;
  • Provide technical advice to clients and Arcus’ other teams; and
  • Consult with planning authorities and stakeholders.

Skills & Experience:

Candidates will ideally:

  • Be full members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management;
  • Have wider knowledge of ecology and protected species surveys and assessments;
  • Be experienced in applying survey guidance and legislation;
  • Be experienced in surveying/assessing ornithological interest in arable, coastal and upland habitats; and
  • Be experienced in contributing ornithological input to support EIA, HRA and AA.

In addition to the above, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with some of the following:

  • Experience in property, onshore wind and solar development projects;
  • Skills in GIS and bird survey data analysis; and
  • Experience of team management and mentoring.

A full driving licence is required for this role.
