Luton Borough Council is committed to an integrated approach to developing high quality services. The Strategy and Sustainability service, within the Place and Infrastructure Department aim to provide a quality service to our customers and contribute towards travel and environmental improvements for the people of Luton whilst assisting economic development and the regeneration of the town.

The Flood Risk and Sustainable Drainage Officer will develop and progress technical drainage and flood mitigation solutions, to enable the Council to undertake flood mitigation and environmental improvements and will provide prompt advice related to planning applications, ensuring applications comply with surface water flood risk and drainage requirements.

About you

This is a public facing role so you will need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.

Our ideal candidate should have the ability to independently interpret and analyse varied and complex information or situations to produce pragmatic solutions and write reports, organise workload and decide priorities. Be able to work under a high degree of pressure including meeting unpredictable deadlines and dealing with conflicting demands.

It is crucial that you have good communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) including: the ability to communicate complicated and contentious information with varied audiences, knowledge and understanding of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and The National Planning Policy Framework (2019).
