Job purpose

To support delivery of the sustainability strategy, including: undertaking research on key sustainability topics; helping to deliver key work streams; and helping to monitor, report and communicate our performance. This role will focus more on the sustainable places aspects of the sustainability strategy including key topics such as community and social value, net biodiversity gain, sustainable transport and net zero carbon homes.


Reporting into the Head of Sustainable Places, you will assist the Berkeley Group in working towards its aim of being a leading sustainable company. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Working on specific key topic areas or commitments to help ensure achievement of our targets, including undertaking research and helping to develop new procedures and documents
  • Preparing guidance to assist the business in managing sustainability
  • Tracking performance at a Group level and compiling written progress reports
  • Helping to communicate our strategy internally
  • Assisting with the communication of our strategy externally, working with the wider Responsible Business team, through corporate reporting and the website
  • Adopting a proactive approach to improving performance and promoting sustainability to all staff
  • Keeping up-to-date with the sustainability agenda, new legislation and best practice guidelines and understanding how they may affect the company
  • Regularly liaising with the Operational Sustainability team to help implement the sustainability strategy and report on our performance
  • Assisting in the collation, analysis and reporting of data to meet both legislative and corporate reporting requirements
  • Working as part of the Group’s Sustainability Committee to drive good practice and implement commitments
  • Supporting the team with research and administrative tasks, as and when required.
  • Help to organise events, meetings and workshops.


The right candidate will hold a degree in a relevant subject and will be motivated and enthusiastic about promoting sustainability. You must also be confident, articulate and resilient in your approach, with the ability to apply sustainability principles in a commercially focused manner. You are likely to have between one and four years of experience working as a sustainability practitioner in a strategic role.


Based in our Head Office in Cobham, Surrey, but will involve travel to some of our regional offices across London, the South of England, and Birmingham.
