PBA Applied Ecology was established in 2010 and has grown to become one of the UK’s most respected specialist ecology practice. We provide clients with efficient, well-targeted, and technically competent services that benefit sustainable development projects and the conservation management of natural habitats, native species and ecosystem function.

Working throughout the UK from our base in the Yorkshire Dales we offer a wide range of services; with particular strengths across terrestrial and aquatic ecology. We are especially experienced in working on challenging infrastructure projects that are located at protected or sensitive locations. Drawing upon a wealth of experience, we take an evidence-based approach and provide practical and sustainable solutions for our clients.

The traditional market town of Settle is just a mile away, and this is also a great area for a range of sports, outdoor pursuits and classic karst landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales.

The Role

An exciting opportunity for a Terrestrial Ecologist (botanist) at the company’s modern base in Giggleswick, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Carrying out ecological surveys and providing ecological and environmental support to a wide range of development projects throughout the UK, PBA has a broad range of varied and interesting projects, each requiring bespoke solutions.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable passion for plants and landscape ecology and will be actively developing their competence in plant identification techniques. Applicants with BSBI FISC Level 3 or 4 (or equivalent) are especially welcome bsbi.org/field-skills. However, we are also very interested to hear from candidates who have the aptitude and enthusiasm to further develop their current level of plant identification skill.

Initially probationary (6 months), this is a full-time position, with the opportunity for further progression within the business. We are offering an attractive starting salary (plus benefits including flexible working, NEST Pension and cycle-to-work scheme), full training and support, and a brilliant working environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to start in April 2020 and will work with an energetic team of ecologists; contributing valued support to this rapidly growing business, both in the office and the field, undertaking clearly defined tasks, initially under supervision.
