Island Conservation Society (ICS) has several positions for reliable, self-motivated and dynamic persons to engage in a challenging conservation career. 

The Conservation Officers will be responsible to manage ICS Conservation Centres in the inner and outer islands of Seychelles, implementing baseline surveys and monitoring programs for biodiversity conservation and rehabilitation of terrestrial and associated marine ecosystems.

Candidates must have the following requirements:

  • Hold at least a degree in environmental science or related field with at least 2 years relevant work experience. The work experience must not comprise only of short-term volunteer positions.
  • Have a diving certificate with at least 40 logged dives. Prior experience in coral reef monitoring techniques is a plus.
  • Ideally should have experience in monitoring seabirds, landbirds, sea turtles, corals and reef fish from the Indo-Pacific region. Must have experience working in conservation in very remote locations, preferably islands, ideally away from their home country. Experience working in Africa or the Indian Ocean region is a plus.
  • Must have experience managing staff (not only volunteers) in a multicultural context.
  • Ability to work effectively under stress in hostile or adverse conditions
  • Willingness to engage in repetitive monitoring activities over the long term, the scheduling of which may occasionally require working on weekends or holidays.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with others especially within a multicultural context
  • Ability to prioritize and organize changing workloads and demands.
  • Ability to effectively execute tasks given and follow clear procedures and protocols without deviation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good working knowledge of statistical (e.g. R, Primer, SPSS, Minitab) and GIS (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS) software packages a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of written and spoken English is essential, and French is helpful.
  • Ability to effectively lead and coach others.

Initial 1 year contract, renewable.
