The Wildlife Trusts believe that everyone deserves to live in a healthy, wildlife-rich natural world and that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of wildlife in their daily lives.

The Wildlife Trusts are a grassroots movement of 46 charities, 850,000 members, 43,000 volunteers and 2,800 staff across the UK dedicated to our vision and driven by our beliefs. The Wildlife Trusts have an unmatched presence on the ground inspiring millions of people about wildlife every year and caring for nearly 100,000 hectares of land. Being part of The Wildlife Trust movement enables you to make a real difference and we look for people who share our values.

About the role:

We are seeking a Media Officer to join our Communications Team. The main purpose of this role is to promote The Wildlife Trusts and our activities and messages to UK audiences through the media with a view to influencing key stakeholders, public opinion and action for wildlife. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Delivery of high-profile, high-impact media activity, working to build our role as a powerful communicator
  • Maintaining an overview of stories and policy initiatives from across the movement
  • Managing press enquiries
  • Actively selling stories to the national media, drafting and distributing press releases, media-comments, features and letters to editors.
  • Generating ideas, writing and editing engaging content for online, print, digital and social media channels

What we are looking for:

  • Experience of generating news stories
  • Experience of public relations
  • Experience of crisis management and managing sensitive issues
  • Experience of copywriting, editing, sub-editing and proofreading
  • Ability to spot a good story
  • Knowledge of how print, broadcast and online media like to work
  • Knowledge of environmental issues especially nature conservation

We value courage, respect, integrity, trust and responsibility. Whilst we are passionate in promoting our aims, we are not judgemental, and we are inclusive. Our society is divided, and The Wildlife Trusts want to reduce, not increase, that division. We are aware that whilst our beneficiaries are reflective of our communities, our staff and trustees are less so. Therefore, we are committed to addressing this.

The Wildlife Trusts is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
