We are looking for someone with an interest in Local Government to work in our Insight, Engagement and Performance team which deals with partnership working, public and media relations and policy development across the broad spectrum of District Council work. This post will concentrate on climate change mitigation and adaptation and other sustainability projects. You will work with internal colleagues, partner organisations and community groups on the development, delivery and promotion of the Council’s Climate Change objectives, strategies and associated work relating to climate change.

The role will provide professional and technical advice on environmental management and best practice to the Authority, colleagues, partners and the community on a wide range of issues relating to contemporary approaches to climate change, sustainability and the environment. You will also devise and implement awareness and engagement campaigns, working with communications colleagues to publicise the Council’s aims, initiatives and achievements through a wide range of communications media and channels. This will include designing and delivering a range of relevant presentations, training sessions and seminars to educate and promote actions in the wider community to address the climate change emergency and other related issues.

You will have previous experience working in a similar role, a degree in a relevant area of Environmental Management or a similar qualification, with an advanced standard of computer literacy and knowledge of best practice in consultation and engagement, appropriate software and analytical techniques. In addition to a high level of literacy and numeracy you will need to be an excellent and effective communicator, confident acting on your own initiative and as part of a team, and be able to stay calm under pressure.

We offer an excellent package, including competitive salary, career average salary pension scheme, an employee benefit scheme offering a range of discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, flexitime and discounted leisure centre membership.

Wealden District Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.
