Role Profile

ZSL is seeking an Equality and Diversity Administrator to join our Science department for three days a week and play a key role in supporting the Director of Science with the development, implementation and maintenance of the department’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy.

Reporting to the Director of Science and chair of the Equality and Diversity team, this role will act as the Institute of Zoology (IoZ)’s administrative key point of contact for issues pertaining to EDI in the workplace. This will include gathering, analysing and interpreting relevant data accurately for the development of comprehensive reporting; writing up and communicating results of various projects to diverse audiences (internal and external); and providing general admin support.

The successful applicant will have scope to work closely with the HR team and other areas of the business to offer high quality expert advice. Therefore, this role requires an individual who has the ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and has up to date knowledge of good practice EDI approaches in higher education. Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will ideally be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject or have an equivalent level of proven work experience.
  • Previous experience working on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion projects (preferably within a large complex organisation, higher education sector or similar).
  • Prior experience analysing data and large report writing.
  • Up to date knowledge of good practice approaches in inclusion and diversity (preferably in the higher education sector), including the Athena SWAN charter and associated award system.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are a prerequisite for the job.
  • Independently driven and show initiative; with strong administrative skills.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent time and organisational management skills.
  • An impressive record of both developing and managing relationships and project management skills.

Please Note: This is a part-time (three days a week), permanent position based at the Institute of Zoology in Regents Park.

Candidates will also be able to take on an additional 5 hours work per week for £9.48 an hour if they wish to do so. Please note this is not a criteria of the post and will be optional depending on if the successful candidate wishes to undertake this work. This will involve the following tasks:

  • Liaising with BVA (British Veterinary Association) membership department each year for Direct Debit information.
  • Filing most current copies of documents
  • Minute taking at meetings where appropriate
  • Emailing payment reminders to membership annually
  • Informing Meetings Committee of special requests delegates
  • Printing of Proceedings
  • Organising delegate bags remotely and send bundle to venue
  • Ensure quarterly Wild Times (Meeting Organiser update plus Presidents report) is passed to website support for incorporation
