Centre Manager with FSC Blencathra, Nr. Keswick, Cumbria

This is a fixed term position from 1st March 2020 until 30th November 2020 to cover maternity leave in the first instance.

Job Title: Centre Manager
FSC Grade: Senior Manager
Location: FSC Blencathra
Reports to:Head of Group (NORTH)
Responsible for: The day to day management and performance of the learning location, responsibility for the leadership of one or more core learning location teams, and overall responsibility for an agreed function across the region/group.

Overall Job Purpose: 

This is a key operational and leadership role, working closely with the Head of Group (NORTH) to ensure the efficient and effective running of the learning location, and ensuring that all activities are in line with the FSC 2020 vision. This is an active role and will require the job holder to be able to carry out duties associated with all aspects of running a busy learning location.

Under the guidance of the Head of Group, the postholder will also hold responsibility for leading the strategic direction and setting quality standards for an agreed function across the region/group. (For example this could be education, hospitality and catering, administration/sales, etc, and could be subject to change)

Key Responsibilities:

At a regional/group level:

  • Assisting the Head of Group by contributing to the organisation’s national strategic policy, for the agreed function as part of the Group Senior Leadership Team
  • Advising on regional/group budget salary expenditure for the agreed function
  • Along with other senior staff in the region, deputising as a representative for the Head of Group (NORTH)

At a learning location level:

  • Overall responsibility for the day-to-day line management of staff, with a focus on customer care and customer relations
  • Responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the learning location in the absence of the Head of Group (NORTH)
  • Making significant and sustained contributions to the leadership of the FSC's activities in the Northern region as a leading member of the Senior Management Team, including contributing to the development of business plans and action plans
  • Working together with the Head of Group (NORTH). to promote the learning location and increase occupancy, learner numbers and length of season
  • Providing a high level of customer service in order to meet customer’s expectations to ensure re-booking targets are achieved.
  • Active involvement with the recruitment of staff as required by the business, providing support and advice through induction, training & review, and delivering on our commitments to be an Investor in People
  • Ensuring the excellent reputation of the learning location for delivering high quality professional, amateur interest, individual and family courses, university and school courses is maintained and further developed
  • Ensuring that all users of the learning location have a high quality experience, as evaluated through customer feedback and the FSC Quality Badge Plus Assessments
  • Actively improving the learning location’s environmental performance
  • Ensuring the learning location has duty and on-call staff available for all nights that there are students resident on site. The on-call responsibility is typically shared by the Centre Manager and other senior staff and requires that they are within 30 minutes travel time of the learning location, when on call. Duty staff are required to be resident at the learning location when on duty and this responsibility is typically shared by a larger team on a weekly basis.
  • Working together with the Head of Group (NORTH) to further develop partnership work with local and regional partners, contributing to appropriate local & regional networks and communities
  • Proactively leading FSC Health & Safety systems for the learning location
  • Working closely with the Head of Group (NORTH) to ensure that the agreed budgets are monitored closely to achieve agreed targets appropriate to the capacity of the learning location
  • Proactively working with the Head of Group (NORTH) and National Grants Officer to generate income for the learning location through bursaries and grants
  • Working with the Head of Group (NORTH) & FSC Property Manager to effectively manage buildings and grounds

General:

  • Complying with all relevant legislation / FSC Operating Codes of Practice (OCoPs) / FSC Health and Safety Handbook and FSC procedures
  • Proactively inspiring and delivering a high standard of customer service and customer care
  • Ensuring the highest standards of quality are achieved in all duties carried out
  • Working closely with other staff to ensure that appropriate levels of service are maintained during absences and periods of high workload
  • Maintaining professional standards at all times in accordance with FSC policies
  • Fulfilling your obligations under FSC’s Behaviour Partnership to ensure a happy, productive working environment
  • Attending staff meetings as well as FSC internal and external training as required, in order to share best practice and improve team and learning location performance, and participating fully in staff development activities (sometimes this may involve travel to other learning locations with the occasional overnight stay)
  • Driving: We have a number of vehicles which you will be asked to drive. To do so, you will need to be 21 years or over, have a full valid driving licence, to have been driving for at least two years, and undertake an internal assessment on commencement in the role

Subject to meeting certain criteria, you will also be required to drive our minibuses. If you do not hold D1 entitlement and have the appropriate driving experience/certification, you may be required to undertake the relevant training upon commencement of the role

  • Undertaking any other duties that may reasonably be required to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the learning location and wider region
