Job Purpose

We’re looking for someone who loves working with people, and is proactive and passionate about supporting children and young people to fulfil their potential. As the Youth & Community Programmes Manager you will have great project management and people skills to develop and implement the vision of the Youth and Community programmes in King’s Cross through working closely across teams, developing and nurturing cross-sectoral local partnerships and continuing to grow the impact of Global Generation’s youth and community work.

Organisational Context

Global Generation has an established network of urban gardens in and around King’s Cross, West Euston and Canada Water. Our work connects people of all ages to nature in the middle of the city. We focus on the development of the whole person, providing support for children and young people to become catalysts for change in their communities. We integrate values-based reflective learning into practical sessions, enabling people to grow themselves, grow relationships and grow a new vision for the future. The moveable Skip Garden was created 10 years ago and has been Global Generation’s ‘mothership’. It is an urban oasis with a twist - a portable garden that moves to different locations on the King's Cross site as and when land is sold and built on. It is a garden of a thousand hands, built with young people, architecture students and local business volunteers, together creating a new and sustainable community. The food we grow in the Skip Garden gets used in our café. The current Skip Garden is closing at the end of October 2019 and our main base for King’s Cross is now the Story Garden, a new space opened this summer behind the British Library to engage the local community and continue our work from there. Your main base will be the Story Garden with outreach work taking place in and around King’s Cross in Camden and Islington. You will work closely with the rest of the Youth & Community Programmes team, Gardens team, Community Chef, volunteers, children, young people and families.
