  1. Position summary

BVRio is a non-profit organisation with the objective of developing market mechanisms to facilitate compliance with environmental laws. Within the solid waste sector, BVRio is working to tackle the challenge of insufficient solid waste collection and recycling. Since 2013, BVRio has been involved in operating a solid waste recycling and crediting scheme in Brazil to facilitate corporate compliance with the Brazilian Solid Waste Legislation.

Since June 2019, with the launch of the 3R Initiative, BVRio is expanding its work in this sector internationally. Working in collaboration with corporate and non-profit partners, we will develop an international market mechanism to incentivise the collection, separation and recycling of plastics (and in the future a wider range solid waste materials).

We’re now seeking an ambitious and driven individual to take the lead on this programme of activities, with a special focus on engagement and fundraising activities.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation working at the interface between policy, trading and finance to help address the global plastic waste problem in an innovative and socially responsible manner.

The job is based in Oxford, UK, and involves a lot of international travel.

2. Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of BVRio’s Engagement and Fundraising on solid waste activities;
  • Work with BVRio’s partners to build and promote the 3RI with input from other industry players and civil society/NGOs;
  • Proactively engage with consumer goods companies to ensure buy-in and involvement in the 3RI from leading players in the plastics space;
  • Write articles, papers for communications and promotion of 3RI and BVRio’s work in the sector;
  • Design, structure, develop and write proposals for companies and donors for financing BVRio’s work on the sector;
  • Represent BVRio and present at events, meetings and conferences.

3. Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • An above average qualification (Masters or equivalent) in a relevant discipline;
  • At least five years’ experience in the waste sector, resource management and/or thecircular economy;
  • Demonstrable evidence of a thorough understanding and experience of the plasticspackaging supply chain;
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining effective partnerships with variousstakeholders including large companies, small and medium enterprises, consumer goodsand circular economy initiatives, sector advisors, funders and NGOs ;
  • Proven experience developing proposals and securing funding;
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills, including presentation skills;
  • Ability to operate in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work on short assignments in the UK and internationally. 

4. Highly desirable

  • Existing network of connections within the consumer goods sector; 
  • Working knowledge of another language (especially Portuguese, French, Spanish, Chinese or Bahasa Indonesia).


Salary will be commensurate with experience, likely in the range of £32,000 - £50,000.
