Worcestershire Wildlife Trust has an opportunity to purchase, protect and restore a large area of land at the centre of Worcestershire’s last remaining fragments of heathland. We are recruiting a Project Development Officer to work with staff, volunteers and partner organisations to carry out community consultation and to develop a strong programme of activities that will form a core part of our stage 2 application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Heathland is disappearing from our landscape at an alarming rate and is now the UK’s most threatened wildlife habitat. Worcestershire Wildlife Trust has an opportunity to purchase, protect and restore a large area of land (Dropping Well Farm) at the centre of Worcestershire’s last remaining fragments of heathland. Between Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport, Dropping Well Farm is connected to other heathland reserves – The Devil’s Spittleful, Blackstone Farm Fields and the Wyre Forest District Council heathland nature reserves at Burlish Top and the Rifle Range. The project will lead to the creation of the largest area of heathland in Worcestershire.

The Trust has 18 months to raise the funds to purchase the site. We have applied to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and have been awarded a one-year development phase grant to consolidate a community engagement programme that will support our application. We are now recruiting a Project Development Officer to work with staff, volunteers and partner organisations (Wyre Forest District Council, schools, youth groups, walking clubs etc) to carry out community consultation and to develop a strong programme of activities that will form a core part of our stage 2 application to the Heritage Fund.

We are looking for a good communicator who is creative and well organised and has experience of developing and/or delivering projects.

Regular evening and weekend working will be required and a full clean driving license is essential. This is a full-time position, on a 1-year fixed-term contract.

The post will be based at Lower Smite Farm with regular travel required to and around Dropping Well Farm in north Worcestershire.

Deadline for applications: 9.00am Monday 21st October 2019. Interviews will be on Thursday 24th October.

Please visit our Be a Heathland Hero page for more information about the Saving Worcestershire’s Heathlands campaign.

Details and application form can be downloaded from our website here (or email enquiries@worcestershirewildlifetrust.org). CVs will not be considered.
