We’re now looking for a Sustainability Consultant/Development Manager to help deliver our Sustainable Places work. This will involve guiding and supporting projects and organisations to adopt challenging levels of sustainability performance across social, economic and environmental elements.

You’ll need to be comfortable dealing in technical knowledge and research to create an evidence base, but also excel at presentation, persuasion and reassurance to win hearts and minds in the process.

Experience and responsibilities

The post holder will have a strong background and qualifications in either environment and sustainability and/or the built environment. Ideally this will include experience of technical design and/or town planning processes, with experience in housing and mixed-use schemes.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong interest and knowledge of sustainability, from an environmental and/or social perspective, based on personal conviction as well as academic and/or practical experience.
  • Be a balanced all-rounder with good competencies in numeracy and research, verbal and written communication/presentation, as well as team coordination, collaboration and leadership.

The role has three main areas of responsibility:

  • Working with sector-leading developers and asset owners to scale-up social and environmental performance in design, build, operations and management of the built environment.
  • Project managing a 2-year grant-funded research project, delivering smart grid peer-to-peer consumption of local renewable energy with a leading housing association, using innovations in smart metering, time-of-use tariffs, and collaborative consumption models.
  • Supporting Bioregional Homes Ltd (our own housing development company) to plan, design and build locally affordable, community-led, eco-housing across the South East.

Salary: £31 – 39k depending on experience, plus 6% ethical pension contribution
