Function

To support the Solar Trade Association on delivery of membership services, events, business development and marketing. This includes management of a CRM system, and responsibility for the logistics of events and communications to members, such as newsletters.

Overview

The STA is the UK voice of the solar and energy storage industries with an exceptional and proven track record of winning policy breakthroughs and creating supportive services for companies in the sector. We represent about 200 companies in the solar power, heat, and energy storage industries.

We are looking for a bright and efficient Business Engagement Officer to help our member companies grow their businesses and to deliver services, information, and events to those members. In addition, they will be supporting the Head of Business Development & Marketing in attracting new members to the association. This is an exceptional opportunity to work at the heart of the UK solar and energy storage sectors, gain a real understanding of a rapidly evolving industry and develop a range of skills, including business development, event organisation, and membership support. Applicants must be able to be highly organised in a fast-paced environment and apply their talents across a wide range of functions, working within a small and committed team. This is an exciting role for someone who shares our passion to see solar move into the mainstream of energy generation in the UK.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Organising and promoting STA events, exhibition stands and marketing to potential customers of the solar and energy storage industries: eg corporate energy buyers, construction industry, local authorities
  2. Supporting new membership recruitment and developing new member services
  3. Co-ordinating regular membership communication materials, including members newsletters, webinars and maintaining the website members only content
  4. Maintenance of our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system & and ensuring integration of data with the website and Mailchimp mailing lists
  5. Overseeing finance and other administration support such as logging invoices and processing expenses
  6. Fielding enquiries from members, stakeholders and the general public
  7. Liaison with external providers of IT, accounting, graphic designers etc
  8. Supporting the Head of Business Development & Marketing and CEO as required
  9. Ad hoc research and other miscellaneous duties as required

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Excellent written, spoken and interpersonal skills
  • Previous customer facing work experience, especially in membership servicing or events
  • Completer-finisher with excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Confident telephone style
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Ability to multi-task, deliver to tight deadlines
  • Experience of web content management systems (eg Wordpress and webinar software)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Database management skills, including familiarity with a CRM
  • Flexible, adaptable and motivated – a team player

Desirable

  • Numeracy skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with social media or email marketing systems (eg.Mailchimp)
  • Ability to critique and improve systems
  • Design and desktop publishing
  • Willingness for occasional travel within the UK and attend events
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in solar and wider sustainable energy industry
