Contract: Fixed term - funded to September 2021

The marine protected area around Flamborough and Filey is internationally recognised as an important place for wildlife, with unique geology and habitats supporting a wide range of species, including the UK’s largest mainland seabird breeding colony. A partnership of organisations work together to maintain appropriate management of the area and ensure its protection.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support this work, engage with stakeholders and contribute to the ongoing conservation of the Flamborough Head European Marine Site (EMS).

As Flamborough Project Officer, you will have a key role in facilitating the management and conservation of the site through:

  • working closely with regulatory bodies, local authorities and wider stakeholders to ensure the delivery of the established EMS Management Plan
  • supporting authorities in meeting their statutory duties towards the site, providing advice and expertise as appropriate
  • engaging with the work of local non-governmental organisations and other user groups to progress management of the protected area
  • representing the partnership on external bodies and networks.

To achieve this, you will be a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills and experience of partnership working. You will have a good understanding of marine ecosystem management and conservation, with knowledge of relevant legislation and policies. You should be comfortable with working independently to meet objectives whilst being an effective team-player, able to support and engage with a wide range of organisations.

The post will be based at County Hall, Beverley but will require a significant amount of time spent on site around Flamborough and Filey. Further travel will be required across the county and beyond to attend and support meetings and relevant stakeholder events.
