Are you interested in working with the local community to protect and conserve beautiful and historic landscape on the fringe of Surrey and Kent? This post is an opportunity to be involved at the forefront of open space management on 275 hectares of public open space that includes a National Nature Reserve, SSSI’s, chalk grassland, ancient woodland, heathland and heritage features.

You will be part of a ranger team responsible for six Open Spaces that make up the West Wickham & Coulsdon Commons on the borders of Greater London and Surrey/Kent. You will be responsible for assisting the rangers in the supervision of contractors and volunteers, delivering projects to conserve the important features, maintaining facilities and providing a public open space service. As part of the operational team, you will support the delivery of our annual work programme, using tools and machinery where appropriate, care for livestock, ensure safe working practice and work with children and young people.

You should have excellent communication skills to deal with the public, provide support on guided walks and make presentations. You should hold an appropriate qualification (diploma or NVQ Level 2) in a land management discipline and you need to have a full driving licence. To meet the challenges of this post, you will have proven experience of practical countryside management, supervising projects and working effectively in teams and alone.

The working week is based upon an average 35-hour week, Monday – Friday 09:00 – 16:30. This post will be based at the Merlewood Estate Office in Caterham.

Closing date: 12 noon on 18 October 2019.

Interviews will be held at the Merlewood Estate Office – date to be confirmed.
