We are seeking a Consultant for the assessment, design and delivery of freshwater and tidal-related habitat restoration works including; river restoration, erosion control, infrastructure & dam repairs and wetland habitat enhancement. This is a full-time, permanent post. The Company operates nationally, so the post will require occasional overnight stays.

This is an ideal opportunity for the professional development of river restoration, aquatic engineering, surveying and geomorphologic/IT design skills within a committed, experienced and well-established team.

Cain Bio-Engineering is an established ‘design/build’ specialist located in the rural Avon valley south of Salisbury on the edge of the New Forest National Park. We employ teams of in-house Design Consultants, Engineers, Surveyors and Skilled Site Technicians to implement our projects and have a strong ethos of combining environmentally friendly techniques and habitat outcomes in the solutions we devise. We work for a diverse range of private and public sector clients including Environment Agency, Utilities, Councils and NGO’s. Whilst Consultants are based in our office, site visits and project management duties are required throughout the year, providing an interesting mix of office-based and practical field experience.

The successful applicant will play a key role in the company’s development plan with the aim of progressing to senior consultant status based on ability and experience. On-going training will be given.

Job Profile

Due to the varied nature of the role and tasks involved, close liaison with other members of the Consultancy and Operation teams is essential.

SCOPE OF JOB.

Consultancy

  • Production of documents including high quality technical design drawings (GIS/CAD/Corel Draw), reports, proposals and cost estimates;
  • Plan and undertake site investigations in and alongside waterways;
  • Undertake/assist site topographical surveys (level, staff, etc);
  • Assist with management of works programme;
  • Project set-up including obtaining quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, production of utility packs, producing bills of quantities from drawings, preparation of risk assessment and method statements, project and installation supervision.
  • Project management including organisation of programme and maintaining project to time and to budget.
  • Support and mentor assistant Consultants as required.

General

  • Assist Managing Director and supporting Consultants with management tasks as required.
  • Ensuring that work meets all relevant legislative standards including Health & Safety and environmental requirements.
  • Other general duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • An environmental, engineering or science-based qualification; or
  • Equivalent commercial or practical experience in the office or field;
  • Understand small business functions and have a working understanding of some of the following disciplines: ecology, river engineering, river management, fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, surveying and river restoration;
  • Use of Corel Draw and GIS packages and /or demonstrate an ability to quickly and competently learn new IT software packages (in-house training will be provided).
  • Competent writer of technical reports;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Commercial awareness;
  • Physically fit and able to swim, work can involve walking for prolonged periods along riverbanks and in rivers/lakes/tidal zones;
  • Full clean driving licence;
  • Good interpersonal skills and be both a good team player with ability to work effectively unsupervised;
  • Creative/articulate/innovative.

Desirable

  • A minimum of 4+ years’ work experience;
  • SMSTS/CSCS card holder advantageous (training will be provided if required);
  • Previous on-site construction experience.
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Experience of working with Dumpers and Excavators

REMUNERATION

Salary: Competitive salary, to be discussed on an individual basis.
