About the role:

We are looking for an accomplished consultant to join our team working on a broad range of rural environment projects. The position is within our Landscape Planning and Management team and based preferably in our Bristol office, although applicants for our other offices will also be considered.

Our work encompasses the analysis, conservation and enhancement of rural landscapes, providing advice and monitoring of agri-environment schemes along with developing robust strategies to guide stewardship.

Variety of work will be the norm, with the expectation that the successful candidate will help lead projects with minimal supervision, and oversee the work of junior colleagues in the team. Projects could include:

  • Defra/ Natural England research projects
  • Whole Estate Plans
  • Environmental land management advice and monitoring
  • Ecosystem and natural capital accounts applicable to agriculture
  • Land use planning and management strategies.

You will take responsibility for the production of final documents and you will work with others in producing those. You will be able to provide advice on agriculture, land management and ecology. You will also have the ability and experience to work with the team to expand our work in rural and agricultural landscape management, monitoring, research and ecosystem services.

You may also have a sound understanding of environmental legislation, policy and practice across the UK, and the interface with the planning system.

You will be part of a friendly, award-winning team of Landscape Managers, Landscape Planners, Landscape Designers as well as Strategic Planners and Ecologists committed to high quality professional work with a strong emphasis on delivering sustainable solutions.

The salary for this role is expected to be in the range £32 – 50k FTE (plus London allowance where applicable).

About you:

You will be educated to degree level in agriculture, land management or a related subject; post-graduate qualification is desirable but not essential.

It will be essential for you to have sufficient post-qualification professional work experience to have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake this role at the level described. Please provide detail on the depth and variety of the work you have carried out in your covering letter.

You will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to understand the interactions of LUC’s key areas of business and maximise opportunities for collaboration outside LUC. You will understand trends in our markets and across sectors. You will be actively involved with external bodies, forums and events, and seek opportunities to demonstrate ‘thought leadership’ through public events / papers.

You will have the ability to employ innovative approaches to using technical, industry or client-specific knowledge, with excellent report writing skills for a range of audiences setting and maintaining high standards within the team. You will also have a strong track record of successful tender writing.

Your skills will include project and team management, helping to guide and develop the careers of your direct reports. You will be able to work as part of multi-disciplinary internal and external teams.
