About this job

A fantastic opportunity has arisen with us to work on a wide range of interesting projects in Wales and the North West. As an Ecological Consultant you will get the opportunity to project manage a variety of work, taking sites from tender stage to survey and reporting. Stakeholder liaison is a key part of the role as well as the promotion of Atmos at business development events.

As a vibrant and busy consultancy, each day is different and the variety means you will quickly be able to apply your knowledge to a diverse range of projects.

The post will involve taking on project management, managing budgets and sub-contractors, where necessary. You will undertake field surveys such as extended phase 1 surveys, protected species surveys and often work as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW). Work can sometimes be in remote locations; therefore the ability to drive is a critical requirement.

You will carry out desk studies and data consultations, input to protected species licence applications and carry out general technical reporting to a good standard. You will attend local events to promote Atmos to potential new clients.

The Position

The role will be at our Ecological Consultant grade. This is an opportunity for someone with previous demonstrable experience in a similar role who is looking to progress. You will have carried out fieldwork to a high standard and may hold protected species survey licences such as GCN/bats/dormice. You will have the ability to prepare survey reports and be aware of legislative and planning requirements relevant to development. The role will lead on projects both in the field and from the office. Project management and budget management are important elements of the role.

If you have demonstrable experience of undertaking ecological and/or ornithological surveys, good identification skills, experience of project management and reporting and are motivated and enthusiastic to learn, we would like to hear from you.

Personal Qualities

As with all of our posts, the following are also of key importance to fulfil the requirements of these roles:

  • Adherence to good practice in terms of health and safety issues, including when lone-working under our lone-worker system;
  • Attention to technical detail, in both recording and transcribing/checking survey data and reporting;
  • An enthusiasm to do a good job every time, and take advantage of the support offered by our permanent staff and to be able to work as part of a small team;
  • A passion for ecology, ornithology or nature conservation;
  • A working knowledge of MS Word and Excel; and
  • The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

For the successful candidates, Atmos Consulting offers a competitive salary; supportive management committed to high levels of professionalism and staff development/training; a good working environment and the opportunity to enjoy being part of an enthusiastic, friendly and growing team.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from people of all ages and backgrounds.
