Cain Bio-Engineering Ltd. is an established specialist in the delivery of river restoration, pond/lake enhancement and environmentally friendly erosion control projects for a wide range of private and public sector clients including the Environment Agency, Utilities, Councils and NGO’s.

Job Profile

Based in the picturesque rural Avon valley on the edge of the New Forest National Park, we are seeking a Site Manager to assist with our busy programme of aquatic habitat restoration and erosion control projects in rivers, tidal channels, estuaries, canals and lakes. The work is interesting and varied, ranging from chalk stream and spate river habitat restoration to creation of weir bypass channels, Weir removals pond enhancements, earth dam repairs and erosion control in rivers and inter-tidal channels. Ongoing training will be provided for professional development in a supervised and safe working environment, including the operation of heavy plant and machinery.

This is a full-time permanent post. The Company operates nationally, with a higher proportion of projects in Southern and the Midlands regions of England. When working on projects further than 1 hours drive from our base, you will be required to stay away 4 nights a week (accommodation and subsistence benefits provided). Approximately half of our projects require staying away from home.

Main purpose of job

To lead a team of river technicians responsible for the installation and construction of bio-engineering projects, working in close liaison with our Consultancy team.

To manage each project according to the Method Statement and Risk Assessments to ensure it is completed efficiently, safely and in accordance with company procedures.

Position in organisation

Reports directly to Senior Consultant/Managing Director.

Scope of job


  • Responsible for Health & Safety on-site, working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Ensuring construction conforms to all H&S legislation and updates.
  • Preparation of method statements and risk assessments.

Project and Programme management

  • Scheduling of projects.
  • Sourcing and allocation of labour, materials, equipment etc.
  • Supplier Management.
  • Ensure that projects are completed to satisfaction of client.
  • Organising accommodation & subsistence payments.

Team Management

  • Managing and motivating team members and successful communication of information, method statements and design drawings etc.


  • Liaise with other team leaders and consultancy department.
  • Other general duties as required.

Experience / requirements

  • SMSTS or SSSTS Site Management Training Scheme qualification.
  • Team leading / management experience.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • An environmental, engineering or science-based qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Must be physically fit and able to swim.
  • Large scale projects will require staying away four nights per week.
  • Full driving licence essential.
  • Must have good positive attitude and interpersonal skills.
  • Good team player with the ability to work unsupervised.


Starting Salary: Negotiable and dependent on experience.
