Drive city-wide action on the climate emergency

The first of Britain’s major cities to declare a climate emergency, Bristol is leading the way in creating change. The Mayor of Bristol has published his Climate Emergency Action Plan, and is investing new resources in its delivery. We are working closely with local universities to establish the Bristol Advisory Committee on Climate Change, with Government departments to develop new strategic and policy approaches, and with the City partners to engage with a large number of City stakeholders.

Turn passion into action

There’s a lot of energy around the climate debate but harnessing it takes expertise and commitment. You’ll drive the delivery of a range of programmes and projects that respond to environmental challenges and help make Bristol a sustainable, liveable and inclusive city. A key goal will be increasing awareness, understanding and commitment to action amongst Bristol organisations and citizens.

This is a career-enhancing opportunity to engage with decision-makers and experts, at both a local and national level, representing one of the UK’s leading local authorities. Expect to work closely with the Sustainable City and Climate Change Manager, Council colleagues and partners from the public, private, community and voluntary sectors.

Specialist in sustainability

This role would suit someone with a passion for sustainability, who understands the opportunities and challenges of climate change in the context of a City. You’re likely to have specialist knowledge in either sustainable development or climate change, coupled with experience of delivering services, programmes or projects. You’ll be used to developing and influencing policy, targets, strategy and processes, and at sustaining effective partnerships at a local, national and international level.

Rewards to match your commitment

In return, we offer a generous rewards package including flexible working and flexi-time, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. You will work in a supportive environment where you have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.

For an informal discussion about the role and how your skills and experience may help Bristol continue to respond positively to the climate emergency, please contact Alex Minshull, Sustainable City and Climate Change Manager at
