From low carbon heat to smart flexible power, we work with government, regulators, businesses and consumers to drive forward the clean energy economy We focus on enabling the end customer to be a key part of this transformation from households to heavy industry and our members make it happen.

To grow this sector, we need inspiring, exciting communications, informing decision makers, the media and the public about the work of our members.

You’ll be part of an energetic team translating cutting edge research and ‘policy into engaging, easy to understand and inspiring content which will be used for stakeholders at every level. Building off announcements like the net zero target and upcoming COP26, you will be delivering and generating content for routine communications as well as campaigns, supported by our team of subject area specialists and researchers.

This role supports the ADE’s work to set the vision of a local, efficient, low carbon energy system which enables energy users to make the choices which work for them by ensuring people know about the available opportunities and understand the work being done in these areas.

Responsibilities

  • Executing the external affairs strategy of the ADE and gathering and reviewing communication metrics to help us understand the effectiveness of our communications, against set goals;
  • Monitoring of media channels to relevant market/policy updates on Twitter/LinkedIn and drafting appropriate messaging/responses
  • Planning and delivering campaigns and dedicated projects tied to particular events and initiatives, such as COP26;
  • Networking online and face-to-face to identify communications and engagement opportunities that can help us take our communications to the next level, including negotiating contras (speaking, moderating, and in-kind brand exposure) for events
  • Manage the development, technical maintenance (with the help of the IT team) and use of the ADE website, including managing our image library;
  • Delivering the daily, weekly and monthly communication channels with members and the media ensuring consistent messages that reflect the brand and role of the ADE as respected, relevant and representative of its members and the wider industry;
  • Drafting copy for the organisation’s media relations work, including: preparation and issuing of press releases; drafting copy for external articles and working with appropriate staff to respond to media interest in the ADE’s work;
  • Working with the business development team to ensure engagement with the ADE key events programme, including particular communications support for the business development team in the creation of marketing materials and the organisation of events, particularly in tasks such as live-tweeting (the ADE’s four annual key events are the Winter Parliamentary reception; the Heat and Decentralised Energy conference in the spring; the President’s Parliamentary lunch in the summer and the showpiece Awards Dinner in the autumn);
  • Assist in creating research and reports, particularly in liaising with authors, publishers and designers

Requirements

  • Passion and curiosity for current affairs, specifically around climate and energy;
  • Comfortable in a deadline driven environment, exercising project management skills and working independently;
  • An ability to think strategically and critically about communications and external affairs;
  • Interpersonal skills to work cross functionally within the organisation and an interest to build manage and maintain networks within the sector;
  • Creativity and capacity to generate new ideas, perhaps bringing experience from other sectors or industries.

Desirable

  • Relevant work experience with the tools of communications and external affairs (such as social media management, event plans, press releases, network mapping, media monitoring etc);
  • Experience of drafting copy or producing written content to a high standard;
  • Basic understanding of website management;
  • Mail marketing experience with tools such as Mailchimp;
  • Graphic design knowledge (Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Indesign training).
