Garnock Connections Volunteer Engagement Assistant
Reference number: A1450819
Location: RSPB Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire
Salary starting at: £16,504 to £17,880 per annum, pro rata
Hours: Part time, 22.5 hours per week
Contract: 12 month fixed term contract

The River Garnock runs through a fascinating landscape, steeped in history and containing a rich industrial heritage. In between the ancient castles, historic mills and old factories, there also lies a wonderful natural world of fresh and salt water habitats, beautiful woodlands and captivating lowland raised bogs. The Garnock Connections project has been established to reveal and enhance this wealth of industrial and natural heritage, as well as providing an opportunity for local people to connect to their special landscape.

To achieve this, it is vital to have a committed volunteer resource that is able to deliver across the landscape, and effective volunteer engagement will be central to these efforts. As part of this project we are therefore looking to recruit a passionate and committed individual who will work with project partners to improve the scale and effectiveness of heritage volunteering within the Garnock connections landscape. We also want someone who is also eager to learn new skills to progress their career in the heritage sector. As a trainee, you will have access to a range of training and development opportunities.

The successful candidate will engage with heritage organisations, existing volunteers and potential volunteers in the Garnock Connections area to understand the current constraints in relation to volunteering, and identify opportunities for improvement. You will also assist in developing an internet based volunteering hub and deliver volunteer engagement events. We are looking for an individual who has good communication skills with an ability to engage with a range of different audiences. You will also need to be able to work well as part of a team and have the enthusiasm to get involved in a range of different activities.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the centre of an ambitious and exciting landscape conservation partnership that has the potential to deliver real and lasting benefits to our wildlife and heritage. If that sounds exciting then this may be the perfect position for you.

This post is a training placement as part of the Garnock Connections Heritage Trainees Project. The post is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Green Infrastructure Community Engagement Fund.
