The David Attenborough Building, Cambridge is looking for a proactive Project Assistant to begin implementation of its sustainability programme. The role will involve working towards and delivery of targets set out within the David Attenborough Building Sustainability Action Plan, considering the needs of multiple stakeholders and working towards agreed timescales. The role will involve collaboration with stakeholders from across the building, multiple organisations and levels of governance. Targets relate to operational sustainability, such as biodiversity, energy efficiency and waste reduction, and regional/global sustainability challenges, such as travel and procurement. 

The ideal candidate will have a track record of sustainability-related project work and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and face-to-face. They will need to be self-motivated and proactive with excellent time-management skills as this role is largely unsupervised. They will be experienced with and interested in operational sustainability issues, and willing to develop their own knowledge as needed. They will be able to prioritise projects whilst working towards overall programme objectives. This role would benefit from someone with the ability to both engage with building users and to understand and deliver against more technical requirements of the Sustainability Action Plan. An interest in conservation and experience of working on the communication of sustainability issues would be welcome.

A competitive daily rate will be offered, depending on experience. It is expected that the work will be carried out on site, but some work may be able to be undertaken remotely. The successful person will be able to start work as soon as possible. This is a consultancy role, initially for 6–7 months, depending on when the successful candidate starts in post. The assignment is likely to require in the region of 50 days of work until 31 March, 2020.
