1. Introduction

The Better Buildings Partnership is a collaboration of leading commercial property owners. It has 30 members with over £250bn Assets Under Management. The aim of the BBP is to deliver market transformation through sustainability leadership and knowledge sharing across the property industry.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with an industry leading organisation and become a core member of the BBP Executive.

2. About the BBP

The Better Buildings Partnership Ltd, is a not for profit company. It operates through a Board of 10 people drawn from the member companies. It is currently staffed by an Executive comprising a Knowledge Manager, Project Manager, Programme Manager and CEO.

The BBP’s aims are:

  • Delivering Building Performance - Supporting members and the industry to deliver excellent operational building performance.
  • Improving Professional Understanding - Mainstreaming sustainability skills and providing guidance for non-sustainability professionals.
  • Stimulating Market Transformation - Enabling investors and occupiers to understand and act upon sustainability to drive change.

3. The Role

The Knowledge Manager is responsible for the BBP’s knowledge sharing activities, a critical element of the BBP’s work.

Working with the Board, Programme Manager, Working Group Chairs and members, the Knowledge Manager will support the development and delivery of the BBP’s work programme through effective knowledge sharing across a wide range of the BBP’s activities.

3.1  Core Accountabilities

These will include (but are not restricted to) the following:

Programme Administration:

  • Providing administrative support to the Programme Manager & CEO to ensure the smooth and efficient working of the BBP.
  • Organising a wide range of BBP meetings, including Board meetings, working group meetings and specialist engagement meetings.
  • Drafting meeting minutes and agendas, distributing them to the relevant individuals and following-up on agreed actions.

Member Engagement:

  • Maintaining excellent working relationships with BBP members and other BBP stakeholders.
  • Keeping up to speed with members’ sustainability activities, ensuring that the BBP Programme Manager and CEO are kept up to date on members’ initiatives.


Leading the execution of the BBP’s communication strategy. This will include:

  • The Better Buildings Partnership and Managing Agents Partnership websites:
    • Managing the design and ongoing development of the websites and other BBP micro-sites critical for the delivery of BBP’s practical tools.
    • Developing content and posting new information on both websites
    • Ensuring both websites are kept up to date.
  • Weekly Member Newsletter
    • Developing content and drafting a ‘weekly update’ for members highlighting relevant news and initiatives from the sector.
  • Quarterly Newsletter
    • Developing the content for the BBP’s quarterly update, providing BBP members and wider stakeholders with information about the BBP’s activities.
  • Case Studies
    • Working with copywriters to develop the content for the BBP case studies, this includes liaising with BBP members to draft and agree content and design.
  • Social Media:
    • Actively promoting the work of the BBP through social media, particularly Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Impact Report
    • Overseeing the development of the BBP’s annual Impact Report, highlighting key successes and outputs for the year.
  • Project Specific Communications Strategies
    • Developing and agreeing communications strategies for the launch of key BBP publications and tools with the Programme Manager/CEO and relevant working group.
    • Drafting press releases.
    • Liaising with press and relevant members/stakeholders.


  • Managing all aspects of organising BBP events and collaborative events as appropriate.
  • Liaising with external stakeholders to facilitate BBP input into external events, conferences and other speaking opportunities.
  • Identifying events of particular interest to the BBP Executive and its members and liaising with event organisers to help raise awareness of relevant events

The BBP is a small team with a big impact. All of the BBP Executive work together to achieve the BBP’s objectives and from time to time, you will be expected to take on other responsibilities commensurate with the level and nature of the post.

3.2 Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

The candidate will need to have:

  • A relevant degree (or equivalent experience or qualification)
  • A demonstrable interest in the built environment and its role in a sustainable future.
  • Experience of working in an office environment.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Experience of website development/management.
  • Strong report writing ability and attention to detail.

Ideally the candidate would also demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • An understanding of the key stakeholders in the property process.
  • An understanding of the key drivers for sustainability within the property industry.
  • Experience of undertaking research in a commercial context.
  • Experience of website management.
  • Confidence with using social media in a business context.

3.3 Personal Specification
