Senior Site Manager
Reference number: A1370819
Location: Dearne Valley, South Yorkshire
Salary starting at: £34,643 to £37,530 per annum
Hours: Full time
Contract: Permanent

We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to lead all aspects of our Dearne Valley reserves operation. Centred around our busy visitor centre at RSPB Old Moor, the Dearne Valley is an amazing restoration success story. In less than a generation, its landscape has been changed from one of Europe's largest coal production areas to a series of nationally important wetlands supporting breeding bittern, bearded tit, lapwing, redshank and willow tit amongst a wide range of breeding, wintering and migratory wildlife, including an enviable rarity track record.

It is an exciting time in the Dearne Valley. You will use your excellent leadership skills to set the direction for the reserve's management team, driving high standards and outstanding performance in all aspects of the operation.

Your sound understanding of the key elements of reserve management, including ecology, budget management, visitor operations, compliance, and project delivery will give you credibility both with your team and key partners in the area. This will allow you to see through details to identify key priorities and risks, which coupled with your strong problem solving capabilities, will help you lead your team through the challenges and opportunities that face a large and complex operation such as the Dearne Valley.

Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be vital, not just in helping you to lead your team, but also in close working with other key internal contacts from within the RSPB and important external stakeholders in the Dearne Valley. You won't be afraid to have difficult conversations when needed but, equally, you will celebrate successes and lead a positive, collaborative, can-do culture. This will be supported by your willingness to make decisions and take action when needed, bringing the energy that will motivate those around you towards continuous improvements. Over the last 12 months, the Dearne Valley team have been working through the development phase of a National Lottery Heritage Fund bid to transform the site's ecological and visitor offer. The outcome of this is expected in early September and a key part of the new Senior Site Manager's role will be to build on the outcome of this bid to ensure that is a catalyst for positive change in the Dearne Valley, irrespective of the decision.

If this sounds like you then we would love to hear from you.

Closing date: 30 August 2019
Interview date: 26 September 2019, 27 September 2019
