Position Title: Management Systems Officer

Location: Lea Riverside

Reporting to: Head of SHEQ

Introduction:

Bywaters (Leyton) Limited is one of the country’s leading waste management companies, operating from its headquarters in the south-east of England and is strategically placed close to major road and river transportation routes in London.

We operate two waste transfer stations in east London; one is in Leyton and the other, which houses our state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility [MRF], is in Bow.

All of our activities are regulated by our management systems, covering the areas of occupational health and safety (OH&S), the environment and quality. All of these management systems are certified to international standards (OHSAS 18001; ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, respectively) and we are currently having our business continuity management system audited against the standards of ISO 50001 and ISO 22301.

Management Systems Co-coordinator:

  • Salary of £30,000 - £32,000
  • Company pension contribution;

Role:

Reporting to the Head of SHEQ, the incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Bywaters’ Integrated Management Systems (IMS) that include the electronic documents management system and the electronic incidents reporting systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and/or maintenance of Bywaters’ IMS. Ensure that all company policies, procedures and work instructions are documented in a clear and concise manner;
  • Assist in the preparation of tenders by providing relevant documents from the management systems;
  • Control and maintain the company audit schedules for the IMS Conduct internal audits on environmental, quality, legal compliance based on business risk.
  • Ensure personnel have received appropriate environmental and quality oriented training and are competent to perform allotted tasks;
  • Submit the necessary returns to the Environment Agency, detailing wastes received and treated at both transfer stations.
  • Submit Monthly IMS performance reports
  • Ensure the efficient and prompt closure of NCs, Incidents investigations and findings and report on the state of compliance as part of a monthly report.
  • Liaise with the Environment Agency on a routine basis;
  • Attend meetings with the Environmental Services Association, The Environment Agency, and DEFRA etc. to consider operational practices in the industry.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree or HND, BTEC, NVQ level 5 or other technical qualification in a science
  • Environment background essential subject would be desirable;
  • Good communications skills, both written and verbal;
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Word, Excel;
  • IEMA membership (Entry Level) would be advantageous;
