Location: Leith, Edinburgh (although work-related travel may be required)
Salary: circa £20,000 - £30,000 (depending on experience, skills and qualifications)
Fixed term: The initial contract period will be 12 months, with potential for renewal if ongoing work is available.

Ansons Consulting Ltd is a small, progressive consultancy business that delivers high-quality sustainable travel and transport solutions to a range of clients, including local authorities, regional organisations, private companies and charities. 

We are seeking to recruit an early career consultant with a passion for sustainability, a range of relevant technical skills and the ability to help deliver a variety of exciting and challenging projects focused on understanding and influencing travel behaviour. Typical Ansons’ projects include delivering feasibility studies, research, stakeholder engagement processes and business strategies, as well as the design, delivery and evaluation of behaviour change interventions. The role will involve working with existing clients and developing relationships with new clients.

The ideal candidate will be a team-player who is highly motivated, keen to learn and well organised. They will have the ability to manage their own time effectively and deliver to deadlines.

Key Accountabilities:

The post-holder will be required to:

  • Provide and continue to develop capacity to support business growth (including supporting development of proposals to enable work winning for the team), project delivery and business management;
  • Help manage and deliver successful projects (i.e. in terms of content, time, cost and quality);
  • Contribute towards effective team performance; and
  • With support from the Director, manage and drive their career path and develop their own networks.

Requirements:

Applicants will:

  • Have strong communication skills including:
    • the capacity to communicate to high standards (verbally and in writing);
    • excellent interpersonal skills;
    • the ability to back up opinions with well-constructed, evidenced arguments; and
    • the ability to confidently explain complex analysis and concepts to non-specialists.
  • Understand how sustainable travel and transport can support the achievement of commercial, charitable and public-sector objectives;
  • Demonstrate the capacity to understand the travel and transport sectors, the associated consultancy market-place and the key factors affecting them;
  • Be educated to degree level (2:1 or equivalent), most likely from one of the following disciplines - Transport Planning, Geography, Economics, Town Planning and Urban design or another relevant area. Higher qualifications in a relevant discipline may be advantageous but are not essential;
  • Have the ability to manage and/ or support the successful delivery of projects, including the capacity to deliver high quality, profitable work within project deadlines;
  • Have an understanding of, and ideally, be experienced in using both quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • Have good skills in data manipulation and analysis (i.e. using MS Excel);
  • Have the capacity to support the delivery and development of effective consultancy services, across a range of geographies and topics related to travel and transport; and
  • Ideally, have experience of using GIS / mapping software (e.g. QGIS).

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • High standard of written and oral communication, including report writing and presentations;
  • Computer literate: must be capable of using both Mac and PC computers and confident in the use of Microsoft programs Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel and able to use the web to search for and analyse information;
  • A positive and enthusiastic approach;
  • A proactive approach to seeking and sharing knowledge;
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently;
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with clients and partners; and
  • Ability to generate and apply ideas to workplace challenges and opportunities.

The salary offered will depend upon the experience, qualifications and skills of the successful candidate. Ansons will provide necessary management, mentoring and training to the successful candidate. The role is based in our office in Leith, Edinburgh.
