We are looking for a Planning Research Officer to lead on an exciting new project designed to understand and support the planning process regarding biodiversity in Greater London.

The Planning Research Officer will work with a steering group and partners to lead this project, which aims to secure positive outcomes for biodiversity through planning.

Local Planning Authority (LPA) planning decisions involve consideration of biodiversity and the effect proposals will have on nature and green space. Decisions and recommendations can also present opportunity to deliver net gains for biodiversity through development. The Greater London Authority (GLA) and Greenspace Information for Greater London CIC (GiGL) want to identify how to optimally support these planning processes with data and resources.

The project will engage with LPAs, the GLA, GiGL and community stakeholders to identify current practice across the capital. Through research and consultation with those involved in the planning process, the Planning Research Officer will define best practice and develop new resources for LPAs.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience of working with professional partners and delivering project-based investigative work. They will have a good understanding of the principals and practice of planning and be able to apply that to this research-focused role.

The role is supported by the GLA and managed by GiGL. The post is a fixed term of one year.
