ABOUT US

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people about woods and trees to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland.

THE ROLE

The large scale threats facing species and habitats require us to act at the landscape scale. To tackle the threats we must create opportunities for bigger, better, more and more joined up spaces for nature. The Woodland Trust’s approach to conservation aims to take account of whole ecosystems, landscapes and catchments, and consider the geographical and historical context to inform the future. This role will lead on embedding understanding and action across the Trust and externally to help secure exemplary conservation outcomes at landscape scale. The role will shape the Trust’s communications, campaigning and policy influencing and delivery on the ground and is fundamental in realising our strategic aspiration to deliver environmentally resilient landscapes that support our vision of a UK rich in native woods and trees for people and wildlife.

THE CANDIDATE

You’ll be educated to degree level in ecology or a related field, with knowledge of landscape ecology and the application of spatial data on habitats and species to the planning and monitoring of landscape scale conservation. You’ll have experience of the restoration and conservation management of woods and trees at a landscape scale alongside knowledge of a range of approaches to woodland creation. You’ll be expected to communicate with and influence a range of diverse stakeholders so you’ll need to be excellent at developing effective relationships and have a collaborative approach with the ability to seek out the input of others and to support them in their work. This role can be based at home or out of our Grantham office.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Whatever you do here you will be supporting our work to protect and enhance woods and trees. In return we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance and good holiday entitlement.
