About Community Action Group (CAG) Devon Project

The Community Action Groups (CAG) Project in Devon, is managed by Resource Futures and currently funded by Devon County Council until the end of March 2020. CAG Devon community project was initiated in 2016 to support local communities to respond to key sustainability issues around waste reduction– building upon Resource Futures exemplar community engagement model of CAG Oxfordshire - which has received many awards and accolades within the county and wider across the UK. About the role

To coordinate Waste Reduction and Community Engagement in Devon through the Community Action Group Project. This will involve supporting and developing the activities of established community groups, as well as supporting the development of new Community Action Groups, around waste issues. Along with developing the project overall, including the relationship between communities, local authorities and key stakeholders. Part of the role will involve sharing good practice of community development work and keeping abreast of related national and regional waste policy.

Responsibilities

  • To promote the CAG Devon Project by:
    • Supporting and developing the activities of the community groups and volunteers
    • Identifying with the groups, the resources and plans needed to implement community-based initiative.
  • Develop the framework and support the development of the community groups. This includes preparing annual plans for the project and amending these during the year.
  • Meet targets, follow monitoring and reporting procedures as set in the agreement with Devon County Council.
  • Liaise with the various Devon County Council departments (i.e. Waste Services) to support the community groups and volunteers, as well as responding to requests for assistance with cross department strategy and funding.
  • Produce written reports, publicity material, news releases, articles, budget reports.
  • Ensure the project website is maintained and developed. Working with third-party web support to ensure that the website is always in functioning order.
  • Alongside Devon County Council and Resource Futures’ management, think strategically about how the CAG Devon Project will develop and change and develop plans accordingly. This includes identifying opportunities for the project and for Resource Futures. This requires the post holder to keep abreast of current developments and issues in community engagement and waste.
  • Fundraise, where appropriate, with the communities involved to enable their initiatives to be implemented.
