The Young People’s Trust for the Environment (YPTE) requires a new Education Officer, who will work from home for 20 hours per week during school term time only (38 weeks per year).  A contract of 12 months duration is being offered.

The Education Officer will be responsible for the creation of new lesson plans on a range of environmental topics to extend YPTE’s existing library of lesson plan suites. They will also be required to update existing lesson plan suites and online fact sheets as required.

The successful candidate will have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), experience of working either in primary or secondary schools, a good knowledge of the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1-3 and a willingness to fill in any gaps in knowledge.

They will be highly computer literate and able to work with Microsoft Office and Google Docs software and to carry out extensive research online. They must be able to self-motivate and work in their own home. They will need to be available for meetings by videoconference at regular intervals.

YPTE’s downloadable lesson plan suites (ypte.org.uk/lesson-plans/browse) are available free of charge to teachers and thousands are downloaded each month. Enough lesson plan suites were downloaded in the last year to reach 1.62 million children in the classroom. The lesson plans are also regularly recommended to teachers by the Department for Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the high quality of YPTE’s lesson plans as the charity continues to develop more.

The successful candidate will receive £14 to £16 per hour, depending on experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a passionate interest in environmental issues and who wants to assist teachers by enabling them to deliver high quality lessons on environmental topics. The role offers great flexibility and the ability to balance work around child care or other roles.

Appointment of the successful candidate is subject to a DBS check.
