This is a unique opportunity to join a leading international organisation working to secure greater sustainability in the fashion industry.

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) investigates and campaigns to protect our global environment and defend human rights. The Sustainable Fashion Campaign raises awareness of the environmental and human rights impacts of the fashion industry, with a core focus on cotton production. EJF researches and investigates the damage caused by cotton production, including the impact of pesticides and water use, and the growing carbon footprint of the industry. We promote organic cotton as a core means to support environmental sustainability and livelihoods in the Global South.

This is the right role if you are highly motivated and have a range of skills including first class written communication and presentational skills, outstanding organisational abilities and a creative mind able to turn strategic goals into long-term impact. You are ambitious to secure change for people and our shared planet, you’re reliable and loyal, self-motivated, resourceful and able to work effectively with a small, dynamic team.

Key responsibilities:

The position will lead EJF’s research (desk and field-based), compiling robust and inspiring reports, briefings, web copy and social media, and working with the film team to produce films. The Campaigner will lead advocacy with the private sector, media, governments and the public to create a sustainable fashion coalition with measurable impact for the environment and people.

The role will:

  • devise effective consumer outreach – using digital and traditional media platforms, public-facing events, innovative partnerships, celebrity support and film to build support and engagement for the campaign goals;
  • engage retailers and challenge them to commit to higher levels of organic sourcing;
  • identify and highlight policy measures and actions for parliamentarians in the UK and Europe to address ‘fast fashion’ and support fashion sustainability;
  • engage the fashion industry, designers and other thought leaders (including fashion colleges) to promote transparency in supply chains and support for sustainability goals;
  • network with like-minded organisations to develop collaborations in support of shared goals.

Essential skills and attributes:

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant professional experience.
  • Degree-level education.
  • Superb communications and inter-personal skills - ability to give winning presentations in writing, face to face and as a public speaker to a range of audiences.
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to meet deadlines, multi-task and prioritise work flows.
  • A proactive, creative, friendly and confident personality.
