About Us:

Harmil Environmental Limited is a multi-disciplinary company that is just beginning on its path within numerous sectors. As an organisation, we aim to cover as many aspects of the planning requirements as possible for the ease of the clients, as well as taking on board relevant private projects as requested. As a relatively new company, we currently have a small team of employees, with a friendly, relaxed working atmosphere. Harmil Environmental Ltd’s head office is located in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, but due to demand we are expanding into new areas of the UK.

The successful candidate will work within the ecology branch, also trading as Elite Ecology. The company is within its third survey season and has a good track record in delivering on projects for a wide variety of clientele.

Our main focus is to efficiently complete projects for our clients, whilst ensuring the protection and enhancement of the natural world during the planning process and within private projects.

Our vision is to offer as many services as possible to a wide variety of clients nationwide during the planning process and private projects. We aim to continually expand, with a variety of new opportunities likely to arise in the future.

The Opportunity:

An opportunity has arisen to work for an upcoming ecological consultancy that has obtained a great reputation. The roles will see the successful candidates work on a variety of different projects that will test their skill sets and subject knowledge. The opportunity has arisen for a lead role as well as assistant roles within the same team. Our wide range of clientele offers continual fresh projects that offer exciting opportunities. The successful candidates will be required to cover the projects within their geographical area. The option for continued career promotion is possible, with the successful candidates growing with the company.

As part of our expansion plans, we are looking for a candidate based in central Scotland. The successful candidate would be required to travel across Scotland as required. We do not currently have an office here and the opportunities will initially be to work from home. It is within the companies plans to get an office in the near future.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will fulfil a variety of criteria.

Required (with particular reference to the main role):

  • A full UK Driving Licence
  • Previous relevant professional experience in the ecological sector
  • Hold at least 2 protected species survey licences
  • The ability to apply for mitigation/development licences
  • Experience in writing reports to a high standard
  • Project management knowledge
  • A knowledge of the relevant legislation and policies

Desirable:

  • A minimum of a BSc degree in ecology, conservation, natural sciences or a relevant subject at 2:1 or higher.
  • Be a member of CIEEM or a relevant professional body of at least Associate level (or equivalent).
  • The ability to work in a team and on their own
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of solving ecological constraints
  • Good client liaison skills

Optional:

  • Experience in mentoring and developing younger or more inexperienced members of staff
  • Experience of Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)
  • Experience of working with GIS Software
  • First Aid trained
  • Any other relevant qualifications (e.g. CSCS, CSJK etc.)
