Our graduate trainee position is a fantastic opportunity to get commercial experience in a small but rapidly-growing company. You will gain experience in all aspects of the company's business, from sales processing to operations and accounts. The post is initially for a year, with the possibility of a permanent position being offered to the right candidate.

What it offers

You’ll get hands-on experience of the sort of day to day decision-making that happens at a small company in a rapidly-changing industry. In recent years we have faced subsidy cuts, price drops of up to 80%, anti-dumping legislation, global product shortages, successive governments and policy changes, currency fluctuations, manufacturer bankruptcies and price wars among distributors. So we can promise that you’ll never be bored, and as we’re a small team your role will be quite varied day-to-day.

The programme offers a salary of £23k and the possibility of a long-term position for the right candidate, as well as the chance to develop contacts in a growing industry. There’s a friendly and informal atmosphere in the office, and a real buzz when things get busy.

The Programme

The programme will rotate through departments and involve you in a selection of the following:

Business to Business Sales

Wholesale distribution of solar systems to installers makes up the majority of our turnover, with sales of domestic-sized systems making up the most of that. (We also sell some commercial systems and increasing quantities of battery storage and EV chargers.) Demand in this sector has been subsidy-driven and there is currently some consolidation happening in the UK after removal of the subsidy, so competition is fierce among distributors. We keep overheads and prices low, web-tools and internal processes efficient, and our service as friendly and helpful as we can, so we’ve a loyal and growing customer base.

Online Retail

The business started by selling off-grid solar systems to people who need them; narrowboat and camper-van owners, scientific researchers in remote locations and others. That side of the business is still thriving, and orders are placed via the online shop and also through our busy ebay shop. Customers often need technical help designing their systems to meet specific requirements.

Software subscriptions

We have developed - a suite of web-based tools for installers and solar professionals to do all the calculations involved in designing solar systems to comply with industry requirements. There is a free version with limited features made available to our wholesale customers, and also an unlimited Pro version with a subscription fee. An ongoing project is to develop this software for other markets beyond the UK, and to find new ways of generating revenue.
