Earthwatch is recruiting for a Senior Programme Manager, for a fixed term of 1 year to cover a period of maternity leave. The post holder will oversee the development, delivery and evaluation of projects within our Sustainable Cities Programme, a key area of our new Strategy. We are looking for an outstanding relationship manager, with the proven ability to develop effective partnerships with a range of stakeholders including corporates and research institutions. The post holder requires senior level experience of managing projects and collaborating across teams both locally and globally. They will be responsible for financial management and progress against programme aims.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Role purpose:

To develop, oversee and provide strategic direction for projects within Earthwatch’s Sustainable Cities Programme.

Key deliverables:

  • Work cross-functionally to drive the development and delivery of the Sustainable Cities Programme, ensuring that all projects align with the Programme aims and Earthwatch’s organisational mission.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and in particular allocated corporate partners.
  • Lead the Sustainable Cities programme team, across Earthwatch regions, to ensure successful project delivery, including line management responsibilities.
  • Work closely with the development team to identify and cultivate new projects and funding opportunities, in line with ambitions for the Programme.
  • Ability to communicate the compelling and unique business value of working with Earthwatch.
  • Ensure effective monitoring, evaluation and learning of project and partnership activities.
  • Undertake strong cross-functional collaboration to ensure continuous improvement and shared learning across the organisation.
  • Oversee due diligence and risk management of allocated project and partnerships and ensure that all programme delivery complies with Earthwatch global standards and protocols.
  • Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required in the position and contribute to wider activity and the overall success of the team.

REQUIREMENTS

Personal Specification:

  • Extensive experience of successful programme development and management with a strong track record of delivering large-scale partnerships with the corporate sector
  • Relevant degree, or equivalent professional experience working in an environmental science/education, conservation, natural resources or business sustainability context, ideally with knowledge and understanding of urban natural solutions and climate resiliency
  • Excellent relationship management, communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong people management skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with staff across different regions as part of a global team
  • Excellence in strategic thinking and the ability to see the ‘big picture’ – taking a global overview of complex programmes
  • Strong budget management and reporting skills
  • Proven ability to manage competing requirements and deliver on time
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Earthwatch
