Education Officer at Pierrepont Farm, Surrey

Role Description

Tenure: Part time
Hours: 24 hours per week (3 days)
Salary: £21,000 pa (pro rata)
Location: Pierrepont Farm, Frensham, Surrey

Purpose of role: To educate local primary school children about farming, food production and conservation through visits to Pierrepont Farm. Encourage visits to schools to help delivery of the curriculum with reference to the aims and objectives of the Countryside Restoration Trust (CRT).

Key aspects of the role:

  • Daily liaison with the Tenant Farmer & Volunteers to ensure support and involvement, as and when required.
  • Initiate new contacts and meetings with local schools to promote onsite educational facilities.
  • Devise and implement a new programme and formats for school and group visits which will require some weekend and school holiday work. Visits and activities must be in line with the National Curriculum and expectations of the schools.
  • Plan, host and participate at all visits.
  • Prepare all materials and resources including classroom displays, leaflets and handouts.
  • Liaise with other local organisations i.e. The Rural Life Centre and Surrey CC, Surrey Wildlife Trust and Frensham Fly Fishers to add value and interest to all visits wherever possible.
  • Enforce Health and Safety Guidelines with particular attention to hygiene during visits, bio-security measures, reviewing and updating risk assessments, managing first aid kit stocks etc.
  • Collect visit statistics and feedback from schools to help improve effectiveness and satisfaction.
  • Send regular reports to CRT Head Office to update Marketing/PR activity, Trustees Reports and fundraising proposals.
  • Provide content for quarterly ‘The Lark’ magazine, website, newsletter and social media to help promote the CRT.
  • Develop network of local contacts to help event promotion.
