We have an exciting vacancy within our Radioactive Substances Unit (RS Unit). We are looking to appoint a Specialist II. The RS Unit is a small team (21 members of staff) located in various offices across Scotland. Our collaborative way of working allows us to be at the forefront of advising government and regulated industry on the policies, principles and means of regulation of radioactive substances.

As a Specialist II you will be expected to provide specialist expertise in fields which the RS Unit has to apply policies, plans and procedures and to provide technical support to RS staff in assessing the health and radiological risks associated with radioactive pollution control.

  • You will also be expected to undertake investigations when required;
  • To assist in the development of SEPA’s environmental performance measures and key outputs by providing appropriate expert advice, complex interpretive reports, or data; and
  • To inspect premises to determine compliance with authorisation and permits to hold and dispose of radioactive waste.
