Environmental Laboratory and Field Technician

Circa £20-24K (pro rata) depending on experience.

Meteor Communications have been successfully designing, building and installing environmental monitoring and control solutions for over 25 years. We make it simple to obtain high quality, real time data in a secure, accessible way. We build complete monitoring station solutions. Built into kiosks, wall panels or portable monitors these contain flowcells and online analysers all controlled remotely using our integrated telemetry system.

An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our Water Quality Service team in both the laboratory and field. We have an extensive network of monitoring equipment delivering real time data to a range of customers from private sector to government agencies. Working primarily in the lab with some field work you will be responsible for ensuring that our instruments, equipment and network is serviced and maintained to high standards.

Qualifications / Experience:

Successful candidates will have:

  • knowledge/experience working in a laboratory/field environment;
  • a qualification in a scientific, environmental or engineering discipline or equivalent experience;
  • some experience within the environmental sector however this is not vital;
  • good attention to detail and be a competent problem solver;
  • self-motivation and a willingness to work both as part of a team and independently;
  • the ability to manage and prioritise workload;
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • a full UK driving license - essential.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include:

  • servicing and calibration of environmental monitoring instrumentation;
  • servicing and maintenance of associated hardware;
  • servicing of our telemetry outstations and
  • site visits to assist in collection of environmental samples.

The successful candidate will receive training. The role will initially be based in Caversham, Reading. Field roles will be provided with a vehicle and there will be frequent travel across the Thames Valley to access monitoring sites. 6-month contracts will be offered depending on roles and experience, potentially leading to permanent roles.
